After School Programs

After school programs have a long history of providing safe and healthy places for children to learn and grow.  Such programs also serve youth at a time of day when they are more likely to be inactive and consume less healthy foods.  Such programs can work to address those factors while serving as an important bridge between what children learn at school and what behaviors their parents and caregivers allow at home.
5-2-1-0 Goes to After School is a program aimed at increasing healthy eating and physical activity in after school programs by supporting environmental and policy change.  The program is based on the following easy-to-remember 5-2-1-0 message:

The 5-2-1-0 Goes to After School toolkit is based on 6 key evidence-based strategies that can be used individually or collectively in after school programs to address the policies, practices, and environment that influence healthy lifestyle behaviors.
Our hope is that 5-2-1-0 Goes to After School will help support after school programs in raising and educating a healthier generation of children.
