Previous Community Events

Let’s Go! Gulf Coast is all about healthy eating and active living for our Mississippi Gulf Coast children, their families, and the communities in which they live, learn, work, and play! Being able to spend time out in our local communities is what we value, and enjoy, the most! Through our partnerships with early child care centers, schools, after-school programs, workplaces, healthcare facilities, and community partners we are able to meet thousands of children, teens, parents, grandparents, caregivers, aunts, uncles, friends, and families. It is such an honor to meet all of you and be able to work with you on building healthier lifestyles together.

Below is a very small overview of some of the hundreds of events we’ve attended or organized since launching Let’s Go! Gulf Coast in 2014. We have had the privilege of serving our communities for several years now and we are so excited to see what the future holds as we continue to grow, expand, and serve!

Ingalls 5k on the Causeway

September 2019

For several years, we’ve had the privilege of hosting our Let’s Go! Gulf Coast booth at this event. This provides us the opportunity to talk to hundreds of adults, children, and families about the 5-2-1-0 message and how important it is to make healthy choices every day. We emphasis the importance of eating fruits and vegetables, reducing recreational screen time, and choosing water over sugary drinks.

Jackson County Head Start Pre-Service

July 2019

Let’s Go! Gulf Coast hosted a one-hour educational session to all Head Start teachers and staff. We discussed topics including a program overview, the 5-2-1-0 message, importance of being a role model to young children, phrases that help versus hinder, ways to promote fruit and veggie consumption among children, and so much more. We also incorporated a 'stretch break' and taught breathing techniques, stretches, and yoga postures - all of which can be easily implemented at Head Start Centers.

Just Walk Initiative

June 2017

Through a partnership with the YMCA and Singing River Health System, we were able to develop an amazing initiative to challenge employees at Singing River Hospital to walk a mile during their lunch break and launch a month-long walking initiative. Employees were encouraged to utilize the Let’s Go! Gulf Coast ‘One Mile Walk’ implemented with the Singing River Hospital and Ocean Spring Hospital - or to simply walk more at home! We were able to give away T-shirts to the first 50 walkers and provided water, healthy snacks, and educational materials on how easy and important it is to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine!

YMCA Healthy Kids Day
