Partners

Through the partnership of our Let’s Go! Gulf Coast office and local organizations, we are able to increase our impact and reach. Partner sites play a critical role in supporting and promoting all of Let’s Go! Gulf Coast’s messaging and efforts. At the core of every partner site is a Let’s Go! Gulf Coast champion who works within their site to help change their policies and environments, promote the 5-2-1-0 message, and organize or enhance wellness initiatives - all while using our program’s evidence-based strategies. Thanks to the exceptional work of our partners and champions, we have been able to continuously expand and enhance our work along the Gulf Coast. We provide toolkits, helpful materials, programmatic and intervention ideas, continued support, and online resources for use in five different settings: early child care, school, after-school, healthcare, and workplaces to reach children and families where they live, learn, work, and play. Partner sites are encouraged to complete the Let’s Go! Gulf Coast Partnership Challenge each and every year. The Partnership Challenge asks that all potential and renewing partner sites complete select strategies at their site, including a minimum of 2 Promotional Activities, 1 Wellness Activity, and 1 Policy, Practice & Environmental Strategy. No need to stress, though - we are here for you every step of the way! Our team will work with you on developing or enhancing health and wellness initiatives, policies, and communications at your site! Each and every site has their own ambitions and we simply want to help turn those dreams into a reality. All partners receive a Let’s Go! Gulf Coast Toolkit, color posters, flyers, educational handouts and brochures, 5-2-1-0 training, ongoing support and programming ideas from the Let’s Go! Gulf Coast team, public recognition and praise as a Let’s Go! Gulf Coast partner, and so much more!

Early Child Care

As children age, their habits solidify and become much more difficult to change. Good nutrition and plenty of physical activity are key to a young child’s growth and development. The early years of childhood – from birth to age 5 – is a critical period for the development of these healthy behaviors that can have a lifelong impact on a child’s quality of life.

Many children are in a childcare setting, often for several hours each day. Because of this, the child care environment and providers play an important role in helping children in their care develop healthy eating and physical activity habits that will last a lifetime.

Schools

Good nutrition and plenty of physical activity are key to a child’s growth and development and schools reach children during an important period of development. Children spend the majority of their week days at school and eat one or more meals, plus snacks, during that time.

Since students who eat healthy and are more physically active tend to perform better academically, schools are an ideal setting for addressing such behaviors.

After-School

After-school programs have a long history of providing safe and healthy places for children to learn and grow. Such programs also serve youth at a time of day when they are more likely to be inactive and consume less healthy foods.

That means that with support and assistance, after-school programs can work to address those factors while serving as an important bridge between what children learn at school and what behaviors their parents and caregivers allow at home.

Healthcare Facilities

Primary care providers and other healthcare professionals are seen as credible sources for health and wellness messages and thus can play a valuable role in promoting Let’s Go! Gulf Coast. The 5-2-1-0 message for healthy lifestyles is a natural fit for such providers and offers an easy means to have a respectful conversation around weight with patients and families.

It is also important that healthcare workers role-model healthy behaviors to the patients with whom they are working, which is why we believe it’s equally important to engage employees within healthcare settings.

Workplaces

Workplaces reach parents and caregivers where they spend the majority of their day, in an environment that can highly influence and support their behaviors around healthy eating and physical activity. These parents and caregivers play an important part in supporting and role modeling the 5-2-1-0 behaviors for their children.

There are many benefits to employers who want to help employees and families be healthier. The 5-2-1-0 message provides a great starting point for workplaces that are new to wellness promotion and strengthens the efforts of workplaces with existing wellness activities. This makes workplaces an ideal location to support increased physical activity and healthy eating!
